1. Who we are
Closure is an iOS and iPadOS application designed to help Ontario families with estate planning and bereavement guidance. This privacy policy describes how we handle information in connection with the Closure app and the website closureapp.ca.
For questions about this policy, please contact us at info@closureapp.ca.
2. Information we collect
We collect no personal information. The Closure app does not require an account, does not connect to any server operated by us, and does not transmit any data to us or any third party.
All data you enter into the app โ including names, financial account details, contact information, and estate notes โ is stored exclusively in your device's local storage and iOS Keychain. This data:
- Never leaves your device except when you explicitly choose to export it
- Is not accessible to us or anyone else
- Is not backed up to iCloud unless you have iCloud Backup enabled on your device (see Section 5)
- Is not associated with any account or identity
This website (closureapp.ca) is a static site. We do not use cookies, analytics scripts, tracking pixels, or any similar technology.
3. How we use information
Because we collect no personal information, there is nothing for us to use, process, or retain. The app functions entirely on-device. We have no servers that store or process your estate data.
The only communication between the app and any external service occurs when you make a purchase through the Apple App Store, which is governed by Apple's own privacy policy and terms of service.
4. Data sharing
We share no data with any third party. We have no advertising partners, no analytics providers, no data brokers, and no affiliated companies that receive information about you or your use of Closure.
We do not sell personal information. We do not trade or exchange personal information. We do not have personal information to share.
5. iCloud and device backups
If you have iCloud Backup enabled on your device, Apple may back up certain app data as part of your regular device backup. This backup is controlled entirely by your device settings and Apple's iCloud service, and is not initiated or controlled by Closure.
Closure does not use iCloud Drive, iCloud sync, or any Apple cloud service to share your data across devices or store it remotely on our behalf. If you wish to prevent any app data from being included in iCloud backups, you can disable iCloud Backup for Closure in your iPhone or iPad Settings under your Apple ID โ iCloud โ Manage Storage โ Backups.
6. Exported files
Closure allows you to export your estate plan as an encrypted file or a PDF document. These exports are generated entirely on your device. When you export:
- Encrypted exports use AES-GCM encryption with a password you choose. We do not know or store your password.
- PDF exports are generated locally and contain only the information you have entered.
- The destination of your export (email, AirDrop, cloud service, etc.) is your choice and subject to the privacy policy of that service.
We recommend sharing exported estate files only with your lawyer or executor, and only through a method you trust.
7. Apple Intelligence and on-device processing
Where Closure uses Apple Intelligence features for on-device processing such as OCR (optical character recognition), all processing occurs locally on your device using Apple's on-device machine learning. No data is sent to Apple's servers or our servers as part of this processing, in accordance with Apple's privacy-preserving design for Apple Intelligence features.
8. Children's privacy
Closure is intended for adults managing estate planning matters. We do not knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13. If you believe a child has used the app in a way that has resulted in personal information being collected, please contact us at info@closureapp.ca. Given that we collect no data whatsoever, this is unlikely to be a concern in practice.
9. Your rights under PIPEDA
Closure is operated in compliance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), Canada's federal private-sector privacy law. Under PIPEDA, you have the right to access personal information held about you and to have inaccurate information corrected.
Because Closure holds no personal information about you on any server, these rights are primarily exercised through your own device. You have full control over your data at all times and can delete all app data by deleting the Closure app from your device.
10. Data retention and deletion
Your data persists on your device until you delete it. You can delete individual entries within the app, or delete all data by removing the app from your device. We retain no copies of your data.
11. Changes to this policy
If we materially change this privacy policy, we will update the "last updated" date at the top of this page. Because we collect no contact information, we cannot notify you of changes by email. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
Any changes will take effect when posted to this page. Continued use of the app after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
12. Contact us
